Weston Creek is the most uniform of Canberra's districts to work in. Chapman, Duffy, Fisher, Holder, Rivett, Stirling, Waramanga and Weston all went up over roughly a decade from the late 1960s, all share the 2611 postcode, and all carry much the same housing. Single-storey brick, level or gently sloping blocks, and shutters that were nearly all retrofitted later.
We cover every suburb in the district, from Chapman and Duffy on the western side through Fisher, Waramanga and Stirling to Holder, Rivett and Weston. The Molonglo Valley suburbs and the Woden side are on adjoining runs.
Because the district was built in one push, the shutters on it have aged together. We tend to see the same handful of faults across the whole area rather than anything suburb-specific.
Duffy is the exception to the district's uniformity. A great many homes there were rebuilt after the 2003 bushfires, so the housing on those streets is decades younger than its neighbours and the shutters with it. That changes the diagnosis. On a rebuilt house the masonry holds a fixing properly and the failures sit in the motor, the control gear or a wide span instead. If you are in Duffy, it helps to tell us whether your house is original or a rebuild.
