Toongabbie gives us two very different kinds of job. There are the established detached houses on the older streets, many with shutters fitted decades ago, and there is the apartment stock that has replaced a lot of those houses around the station and shops since the 1990s.
We cover Toongabbie across the 2146 postcode and the neighbouring streets in Old Toongabbie, Pendle Hill and Girraween. Winston Hills, Seven Hills and the Prospect side are all inside the same service area.
The older housing is post-war brick and fibro with aluminium windows added later, while the newer blocks near the centre have modern openings and modern controls. Both sit in one of the hotter parts of the Sydney basin.
A manual shutter that is thirty years old is often still worth keeping. The mechanism is simple, parts are still available for most of the common systems, and replacing a strap or a winder costs a fraction of a new unit. We will tell you plainly when a shutter is past saving, but in Toongabbie the answer is more often that it needs a service than a replacement.
