The bulk of Stanmore's housing went up in the boom of the 1880s and 1890s, and a shutter fixed to a Victorian terrace behaves nothing like the same unit on a brick veneer home further west. The building it is attached to has been moving for well over a century.
We cover all of Stanmore in the 2048 postcode, from the Parramatta Road end through the streets around the railway line and down to the Marrickville and Petersham boundaries. Newtown, Camperdown, Annandale and Leichhardt are all on the same run.
Terraces and semis of this era have narrow frontages, tall narrow window openings and brickwork laid in lime mortar, none of which suits a shutter designed for a modern opening.
A number of Stanmore streets have consistent original frontages and sit within conservation controls, so anything visible from the street needs thinking about before it is changed. We repair existing hardware wherever it can be saved rather than defaulting to a replacement that alters how the front of the house reads. If you are unsure what applies to your property, the council is the right first call and we are happy to work to whatever they tell you.
