By the time a shutter in Rivett comes to us, it has usually been on the house for decades. Weston Creek was built out from the late 1960s into the 1970s and Rivett's original brick homes are still the bulk of the suburb. Hardware that old rarely fails suddenly. It gets stiffer, slower and noisier over a few winters until one morning it will not move at all.
We cover the whole of Rivett in the 2611 postcode, including the streets backing onto the reserve along the western edge of Weston Creek. Chapman, Stirling, Waramanga and Holder are all part of the same run.
Rivett's housing is consistent. Single-storey brick, aluminium-framed windows, and shutters fitted well after the house was finished. That consistency means we can often pick the fault before we arrive.
There is a habit in this trade of quoting a whole new unit whenever an older shutter plays up, and it is not always warranted. On a Rivett shutter the curtain is often in reasonable condition, because aluminium slats have little to fail. What has worn is the spring, the bearings, the guide inserts or the motor, and each of those can be dealt with on its own. We will tell you honestly when a unit is past saving, but we look at repairing it first.
