Reid was one of the first suburbs Canberra built, laid out in the 1920s with hedged front gardens and small original cottages, and a lot of that fabric is still standing. Working on a Reid house means working on brickwork that is close to a century old, and that changes what a shutter can safely be fixed to.
We cover the whole of Reid in the 2612 postcode, from the city edge across to the Anzac Parade side and out to the boundaries with Braddon and Campbell. Ainslie, Turner and the rest of the inner north are part of the same service run.
Almost nothing in Reid was built with shutters. They are retrofits onto interwar cottages, often added decades after the house went up, and the fit is rarely as clean as it would be on a modern opening.
Reid contains one of Canberra's better-known heritage precincts, and a fair number of houses carry protection of their own. That does not stop a shutter being repaired, but it does rule out the easy answer of pulling the unit off and bolting on something new. We work with what is already there, match parts where we can source them, and keep changes off the street elevation. If your house is listed, mention it when you call so we can plan the job around it rather than find out on site.
