Macquarie is one of the more heavily treed Belconnen suburbs, with mature street planting along most of the older streets. It looks good and it costs you in headbox maintenance. Leaf litter finds its way into the box, packs down around the roller and jams the curtain, and that accounts for a solid share of the call-outs we get here.
We cover Macquarie throughout the 2614 postcode, including the streets around Jamison Centre and out to the Cook, Aranda, Weetangera and Page boundaries. Bruce and Hawker are on the same run.
Macquarie was built through the 1960s and 1970s, mostly single-storey brick on established blocks. Between the age of the housing and the tree cover, the faults here follow a fairly consistent pattern.
If your shutter has become noisy, runs unevenly, or stops short of the top, the headbox is the first place to look. Clearing one properly means taking the cover off rather than poking at it from below, and it is worth doing before the roller tube gets scored. On the more heavily treed Macquarie streets a clean-out every couple of years saves a good deal of harder work later on. If you are unsure whether debris is the problem, listen to the shutter as it runs. A grinding or scraping noise on the way up nearly always points at the headbox or the rails rather than the motor.
