Two faults account for most of what we attend in Lethbridge Park. One is a curtain jammed in the rails, usually from heat and built-up grit. The other is a retrofit fixing that has finally let go of old brick or cladding. Neither is a big job on its own, and both get worse the longer they are left.
We cover Lethbridge Park in the 2770 postcode along with Tregear, Emerton, Shalvey, Willmot, Whalan, Bidwill and Mount Druitt. The whole of this area falls inside one run for us.
The housing here dates mainly from the 1970s, single storey on compact blocks, with a good deal of renovation and recladding since. Almost every shutter is a retrofit rather than original to the house.
If a shutter has stuck partway, the worst thing you can do is keep pressing the button. Each attempt drives the curtain harder into whatever is stopping it, and a rail clean turns into a bent bottom rail and a burnt-out motor. Stop, use the manual override if the unit has one, and leave it where it is. Tell us on the phone whether it is stuck open or shut, because a house left unsecured overnight goes to the top of our list.
