What a shutter is bolted to matters more in Lalor Park than it does in most suburbs. A lot of the original housing here is fibro or clad rather than full brick, and a fixing that would hold indefinitely in masonry will slowly work its way out of a cladding sheet under the weight of a shutter.
We cover Lalor Park in the 2147 postcode along with Seven Hills, Kings Langley, Toongabbie, Blacktown and Marayong. It is a short run for us and there is no part of the suburb we treat as out of the way.
Lalor Park was built out in the 1950s and 60s on compact blocks, and much of the stock has since been renovated, reclad or extended. Where the cladding has changed over the years, the shutter fixings behind it were not always redone to match.
Before we hang anything on a clad wall we work out what is actually behind it, because the fix is to reach solid framing rather than to use a bigger screw in the same sheet. If your shutter has started to sit unevenly or the box has visibly dropped, stop using it until it has been looked at. A shutter running crooked will keep damaging itself, and what starts as a fixing problem turns into a curtain problem if it is left long enough.
