Almost all of Haberfield sits inside a heritage conservation area, and that shapes every job we do here. The suburb was laid out as a garden suburb in the early 1900s and the Federation housing has largely survived intact, which means the shutters on those homes have to work with original window openings rather than around them.
We cover the whole of Haberfield in the 2045 postcode, from the Ramsay Street shops through the residential streets down toward Iron Cove. Summer Hill, Ashfield, Croydon, Five Dock and Leichhardt are on the same run.
Haberfield is dominated by Federation bungalows on regular blocks, most with timber-framed windows and generous eaves. Those openings were built by hand and very few of them are perfectly square today.
Changing a street-facing elevation in Haberfield is not something to take lightly, so our default here is to repair the hardware you already have rather than replace the unit. That keeps the frontage as it is and avoids the approval questions that come with a visible change. Where a shutter genuinely cannot be saved, we will talk through the options with you before anything is removed, and we will keep the work to the parts of the house that are not on public view wherever the layout allows.
