The southern end of the Tuggeranong valley swings hard between the overnight low and the afternoon high, and Gordon sits in the middle of it. That range is what does the damage. Hardware that would last decades in a milder climate gets worked hard here twice a day, every day of the year.
We cover Gordon in the 2906 postcode along with Conder, Banks, Bonython and Calwell. The southern Tuggeranong suburbs are all within a short run of each other and we cover the lot.
Gordon was developed through the 1990s, so the housing is newer than most of Tuggeranong. Larger floor plans, more brick veneer, plenty of two storey builds and a higher proportion of motorised shutters. A number of homes here have shutters on every street facing window, which is a lot of hardware ageing at the same rate.
Shutters on the western side of a Gordon home take the worst of both seasons and they fail first. If you have one that is noticeably harder to operate than the others in the house, that is usually why. Checking rail clearance and curtain fit on the hot elevations is worth doing before summer rather than during it. We would rather look at the whole set than at one window.
