Most Giralang shutter faults announce themselves on a cold morning. The curtain that ran fine all summer sticks at the same point, or the motor labours and stops, then behaves perfectly by mid afternoon. That pattern is not a coincidence and it is not something that will settle down on its own. It is a mechanical problem the cold is making visible. If it is happening to one shutter it is usually happening to the others as well, just not far enough along yet to notice.
We cover Giralang in the 2617 postcode along with Kaleen, McKellar, Lawson and Bruce. Giralang is a small suburb and we take it as part of a wider Belconnen run.
Giralang was built in the late 1970s, mostly single storey homes on standard blocks with a good deal of later renovation. Shutters are retrofits and a fair number are original to the first fit. Blocks are a standard size and most windows are within easy reach from the ground.
When we come out we look at the whole installation, not only the shutter you called about. That means checking rail alignment, spring tension, seal condition and fixings on each unit while we are there. It takes a few extra minutes per window and it usually finds the next fault before it becomes a second call out. If several are close to going, we will say so rather than leaving you to find out one at a time.
