At the northern edge of Belconnen the built up area gives way to open country, and Fraser homes get less shelter than the suburbs further in. More wind, harder frost and a wider swing between the morning and afternoon temperature all land on the same hardware, and shutters on the exposed elevations age faster than the ones around the back.
We cover Fraser in the 2615 postcode along with Charnwood, Flynn, Spence and Dunlop. Northern Belconnen is a normal working area for us and we cover it end to end.
Fraser was built out through the late 1970s and into the 1980s, mostly detached brick homes on ordinary suburban blocks. Shutters here are typically retrofits that are now decades old. The western and northern elevations do most of the suffering, and that is where we usually start looking.
Autumn is the sensible time to have an older Fraser shutter looked at. Seals, rails and spring tension can all be sorted in an hour in April, and they turn into a bigger job if you leave them until the first hard frost has already got into them. If a shutter has been sticking through summer, it will be worse in July. We can look at every shutter on the house in the one visit rather than only the one that failed.
