Emerton dates from the big Housing Commission build-out of the Mount Druitt area in the late 1960s and 1970s, and a great many of those single storey brick homes are now privately owned and renovated. The shutters on them were added at all sorts of points over the last forty years, which makes for a wide spread of hardware in one small 2770 suburb.
We cover Emerton and the surrounding Mount Druitt suburbs, including Tregear, Whalan, Lethbridge Park, Hebersham, Shalvey, Willmot and Bidwill. It is a compact area and we are through it regularly, so getting to you is rarely the delay.
Homes of this era have fairly plain openings and shallow eaves, which makes for a straightforward install but leaves the shutter with almost no shelter from the weather.
We start by working out what can be saved. Older shutters often have heavier slats than a modern equivalent and are worth keeping if the curtain, box and rails are sound, and in a lot of cases the fault is confined to one worn component. Where a unit genuinely cannot be brought back, we will tell you that straight rather than patching something that will fail again in six months. Nothing is gained by putting a new strap on a unit whose box has already given up.
