Downer was gazetted in 1960 as government housing, and almost every shutter here went on long after the windows did. Before that the area was a CSIRO agricultural research facility, and the pines and gums planted then as a windbreak are still a feature of the suburb. Those two facts cover most of our work in Downer. Old brickwork that a retrofitted bracket has to hold onto, and mature trees dropping steadily into shutter boxes.
We cover all of Downer in the 2602 postcode, from the streets around the community centre and shops through to the Dickson, Watson and Lyneham boundaries. Hackett, Ainslie and Braddon are minutes away and we work right across the inner north on the same run.
Ex-government housing from around 1960, much of it since renovated, on blocks with heavy established planting.
Downer houses have been renovated at very different rates, so two similar looking homes on the same street can have completely different window openings behind their shutters. That is worth mentioning when you call. If your windows were replaced at some point and the shutter was kept, there is a fair chance the guides are now carrying load unevenly, and correcting that is a better fix than adjusting the curtain and hoping it settles.
