Leaf litter causes more shutter failures in Doonside than anything mechanical. The suburb has mature street trees through the older sections and sits alongside significant reserve land in the 2767 postcode, and all of that greenery ends up in headboxes that were never designed to be self clearing. It is the most preventable problem we deal with locally.
We cover the whole of Doonside, from the older streets near the station across to Woodcroft and the reserve boundaries. Blacktown, Marayong, Bungarribee, Arndell Park and Rooty Hill are all part of the same run for us, so we can often see two or three properties in the area on the one visit.
Housing runs from 1960s and 1970s brick through to the newer estates on the Woodcroft side. Older units with generous headboxes collect the most debris, but no shutter is immune if there is a tree above it.
If your shutter has started to sound gritty on the way up, or it stops a few centimetres short and then goes when you cycle it again, that is usually debris rather than a failing part. Getting the box and rails cleared at that point is a much smaller job than dealing with a seized axle later. It is worth doing before the summer storms rather than after them.
