Almost every shutter we work on in Chiswick has been added to a house that was finished long before roller shutters were common. The Federation and interwar homes across the 2046 postcode were built with openings that are rarely square by modern standards, and fitting a rigid aluminium unit into one of them is where most local problems begin.
Chiswick is compact and we cover all of it, from the streets running down towards the Parramatta River through to the Five Dock boundary. Abbotsford, Drummoyne, Russell Lea, Rodd Point and Wareemba are all part of the same inner west run.
Older houses move. Timber frames settle, brickwork shifts a few millimetres over a century, and a shutter installed dead level ten years ago may not be level now.
Being this close to the water means the maintenance interval that suits an inland suburb is too long here. Rails want cleaning and lubricating more often, and corrosion caught at the surface stage is a straightforward fix, while the same rail left another two years may need replacing. We are happy to look at a shutter that is still working and tell you it is fine. On a peninsula this narrow that check is worth making before summer rather than after it.
