Cold air pools in the Tuggeranong valley overnight and Chisholm collects its share. That is why so many of the shutter faults we find here trace back to frost rather than to use. Water sits in a worn seal, freezes, and pushes the gap open a little further each time. By the end of a season a shutter that was only slightly draughty in April is properly leaking cold by August. Chisholm was gazetted in 1975 and the housing is mostly brick from that era, on blocks that back onto reserve along the south-eastern side.
We cover all of Chisholm in the 2905 postcode, from the streets near the shops through to the reserve boundary. Fadden, Gilmore, Gowrie, Richardson, Macarthur and Calwell all adjoin the suburb and we work right across Tuggeranong.
Mid 1970s brick veneer with retrofitted shutters. The failures follow the weather more closely than they follow the age of the mechanism.
There is a simple habit worth getting into through winter down here. Do not run a shutter that is visibly frosted. Give it half an hour of sun, or wind it up slowly by hand if it is manual. Forcing a motorised unit against ice costs a drive, and a drive costs far more than the wait does. If yours has already been forced and now sounds wrong, that is worth looking at sooner rather than later.
