Chifley went up in 1966, all at once. Around 795 houses and 156 flats were built to accommodate roughly three thousand people, and a great many of those original window openings are still what shutters get fitted to today. Sixty years of Canberra frost has been through that brickwork. It is the most useful single thing to know before starting a job here, because a fixing that would be routine on a newer wall is not routine on this one.
We cover all of Chifley in the 2606 postcode, including the streets on the Mount Taylor reserve side and the flatter section toward Lyons and Phillip. Pearce, Torrens, Waramanga and Weston are all close by, so a Chifley job sits inside the same Woden run as its neighbours.
One suburb, one construction period, one set of problems. Chifley is more consistent than most places we work.
An old opening is not a reason to replace a shutter. It is a reason to fit and pack it properly. Most of what goes wrong in Chifley comes from hardware installed as though the wall were modern, and correcting that is usually straightforward once someone actually looks behind the guides. We will tell you what the wall is doing rather than treating the symptom at the curtain.
