A shutter that will not close properly costs you money every night through a Calwell winter. Plenty of households in Tuggeranong use their shutters as insulation as much as security, and a gap at the bottom rail or a curtain that stops short lets the cold come straight in. Calwell was gazetted in 1975 and built out from there, so most of the housing is brick veneer of that era with fairly standard window sizes. That part is good news for repairs. Parts are usually available and the openings are predictable.
We cover all of Calwell in the 2905 postcode, from the streets around the shops through to the Isabella Plains, Theodore and Conder boundaries. Richardson, Gordon and Bonython adjoin the suburb and we work across the whole Tuggeranong valley.
Housing from the mid 1970s onward, with shutters mostly retrofitted rather than fitted at build. The retrofit is usually where the trouble starts.
Closing a shutter over a window adds a layer of still air against the glass, and on a Canberra night that is worth having. It only works if the curtain reaches the sill and the seal still makes contact. If yours stops a few centimetres short, or you can see daylight around the guides, that is a repair rather than a replacement in most cases. We would rather adjust and reseal an existing unit than sell you a new one that does the same job.
