Summer is the season that finds every weakness in a Busby shutter. This part of south western Sydney runs well hotter than the coast, the older brick and fibro homes across the Green Valley area were not built with much insulation, and shutters end up doing real work keeping afternoon heat out of west-facing rooms. A unit that jams in January is a bigger problem here than the same fault would be closer to the water.
We cover Busby in the 2168 postcode and the neighbouring Green Valley suburbs, including Heckenberg, Sadleir, Miller, Cartwright, Ashcroft and Green Valley itself. Liverpool is close by, so this is a regular run for us rather than an occasional trip.
Most of the housing dates from the 1960s and 1970s and the shutters have been added at various points since, often by different installers using different systems.
Closing a shutter on a west-facing window before the afternoon sun hits it makes a noticeable difference to how hard the air conditioner has to work, and in an older uninsulated house that difference is bigger than most people assume. It only holds if the shutter closes fully and seals at the bottom. A shutter left half open because it sticks is doing almost nothing. If yours has been getting harder to close over the last couple of summers, that is worth sorting out before the next one.
