Two very different kinds of building sit side by side in Braddon, and they fail in completely different ways. The Braddon Garden City heritage precinct went up in 1921 and 1922 and is the only completed example of a Walter Burley Griffin residential design in Canberra. A few streets away, land along Northbourne Avenue is zoned for apartment buildings of eight storeys and more. A shutter on a 1920s cottage and a shutter on a tenth floor unit have almost nothing in common except the weather they both cop.
We cover all of Braddon in the 2612 postcode, from the older streets between Donaldson and Currong through the Lonsdale Street precinct and across to the Haig Park side. Turner, Lyneham, Dickson, Ainslie, Reid and Civic all adjoin Braddon, and we work right through the inner north.
Age is the first question on a Braddon callout. It decides whether the problem is at the wall or inside the mechanism.
In the heritage precinct we repair the existing hardware wherever it can be saved. That keeps the frontage as it is and avoids the approval questions a visible change can raise. In one of the newer buildings, the first thing to sort out is whether the shutter is yours or the body corporate's, because that determines who books the job and who pays for it. We can look at either, and we can put the fault in writing if you need it for someone else.
