A heritage conservation area covers a large part of Beecroft, and it has kept the suburb looking much as it did decades ago. Federation and interwar houses, deep front gardens, and very few of the rebuilds that have reshaped suburbs closer to the city. Working on shutters here means working with old joinery, old brickwork and owners who care what the front of the house looks like.
We cover Beecroft in the 2119 postcode along with the adjoining streets in Cheltenham, and we take in Pennant Hills, Epping and West Pennant Hills on the same northern run. The steeper streets and long driveways here can make access awkward, so let us know if there is anything unusual about getting to the property.
Old houses under a heavy tree canopy give us a fairly specific list of faults, and most of them have nothing to do with how the shutter is used.
The trees are the reason people move here and they are also the reason shutters need more attention than they do elsewhere. Clearing the headbox and rails once or twice a year prevents most of what we get called out for, and it is the sort of thing worth doing at the same time as the gutters. If a shutter has already jammed on a packed box, do not force it. A curtain dragged over compacted debris bends slats, and that turns a clean-out into a rebuild.
