The eucalypts left standing when Aranda was laid out in 1967 are the reason we clear so many headboxes here. Aranda was the first suburb settled in Belconnen and it was deliberately built around its existing tree cover, with nature park along the southern and eastern boundaries. Bark, leaf litter and seed capsules work their way into the shutter box, and once enough of it is in there the curtain starts to jam as it rolls.
We cover all of Aranda in the 2614 postcode, including the streets running up toward the Black Mountain reserve and the flatter section near the shops and the district playing fields. Cook, Macquarie, Bruce and the Belconnen town centre are all close by, and we can usually take a job in any of them on the same visit.
Aranda's housing is late 1960s and early 1970s, on large blocks with mature planting. Older brickwork combined with heavy tree cover produces a fairly consistent set of faults.
If your shutter sits under a mature eucalypt, the box is worth opening every couple of years whether or not anything is obviously wrong. Clearing it out is straightforward and it prevents the slow damage that comes from debris grinding against the curtain each cycle. We can do it while we are on site for something else, and we will tell you what condition the box and the axle are actually in rather than guessing from outside.
