Almost all of Acton is university and national institution rather than housing, which makes the residential work here different to anywhere else in Canberra. What we get called to is mostly apartments, staff accommodation and the newer buildings near the lake, and the shutters on them tend to be tall, narrow and set into modern facades. The climate still does the damage. The daily swing between a frosty morning and a warm afternoon works on fixings and seals whether the building is a 1960s brick house or a render and glass apartment block.
